The 2010 PWA Freestyle World Cup Lanzarote windsurfing racing event was held at Coasta Teguise just last week and the event was rough at points but was full great windsurfing action.  The World Cup Lanzarote event was the 2nd major windsurf event within the PWA World Cup and had the best of the best windsurfers from around the world competing for top honors at this windsurf event.  None other than Sarah-Quinta Ofringa and Gollito Estredo took 1st place in their respective races and did a great job of showing off their windsurfing skills.  For more details about the windsurfing racing event please check out this link.

The folks over at the Maui Windsurfing Association were nice enough to make a full list of the huge variety of windsurfing race events that will be going on during the 2010 Windsurfing Season.  The list of events range from slalom windsurf races, to speed challenges, and a long distance windsurfing event that has windsurfers traveling Maui to Moloka’i.  So if you’re in the Maui, Hawaii area this Summer, why not check out this link to the Maui Windsurfing Association’s homepage for details on the top windsurfing events that will be coming to Maui’s beaches this year.

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) going on throughout this week in Los Angeles at the LA Convention Center we thought it’d be prime time to report on a windsurfing video game.  While not from Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony Windsurfing MMX is a down loadable PC game that features dozens of freestyle windsurfing moves and plenty of styles of races to compete in.  The game not only allows for you to compete for high scores and against the computer but lets you fight it out with online gaming against other virtual windsurfers for top billing across all the featured event types.

Windsurfing MMX handles great and is not too taxing on your PC.  The designers of the game were also gracious enough to provide a demo for the videogame, so why not head over to their homepage to try out the game or purchase it for a low price through paypal. The 2010 professional windsurfing season continue to move forward and we are fast approaching some of the biggest events.  One particular set of events we have our eyes on is the 2010 US Windsurfing Championship (also know as the North American Formula Racing Championship) which is being held July 20th-24th.  This event will be held at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, California and is officially sanctioned by the International Windsurfing Association.

The 2010 US Windsurfing Championship will be following the very strict rules governed by the IWA and will draw some of the countries top windsurfers to the San Francisco Bay.  For more information please click the following link for a pdf of the full information about the windsurf event.

Australia is one of the most popular tourist destinations and has collection of calm waters for stand-up paddle boarding and big waves and great wind for windsurfing. Australia’s low amount of rainfall allows for more opportunity for getting out on the waves than almost any other vacation location on the planet. There is also a beauty within the large expanse of the diverse scenery of the outback and thousands of people flock to it for camping and walk-abouts.

Perth receives moderate though highly seasonal rainfall. Summers are generally hot and dry, lasting from December to late March, with February generally being the hottest month of the year, making Perth a classic example of a Mediterranean climate. Summer is not completely devoid of rain with sporadic rainfall in the form of short-lived thunderstorms, weak cold fronts and on very rare occasions decaying tropical cyclones from Western Australia’s north-west which can bring significant falls. On most summer afternoons a sea breeze blows from the south-west, providing relief from the hot north-easterly winds. Temperatures often fall below 30 degrees a few hours after the arrival of the wind change. Winters are relatively cool and wet, with most of Perth’s annual rainfall falling between May and September.

It is great to see a non commercialized event that covers multiple water sports and “extreme sports” liking windsurfing, stand-up paddlesurfing, and skateboarding without getting lost only making it mainstream.  The folks organizing the 3rd Annual Orange Freestyle Cup started the event to celebrate their respective sports and the culture surrounding them and have kept true to the ideal with the 2010 event.  The event will be held Marsielle which is located just south of France on June 16th-20th.  Unfortunately their homepage is only in french but if you’re interested in viewing it please check out this link but for a great write-up about the Orange Freestyle Cup, please look at this page from Continent Seven or check out the video below.
