We have highlighted many of Gaastra’s high performance windsurfing products during the history of Discover Windsurfing. We are now glad to highlight a major triple win that Team Gaastra achieved at Podersdorf, Australia just this past weekend. It was a hard fought competition in the Windsurfing Freestyle Men’s division but we are glad to share that Steven Van Broeckhoven, Kiri Thode, and Davy Scheffers from Team Gaastra took the top three spots respectively. This up and down event came down to the very last run and by a slim margin and a fortunate pick up of wind speeds, Steven Van Broeckhoven was able to pull forward from the competition. Steve utilized his explosive freestyle windsurfing skills to pull off a superb performance that had the crowd in awe. Along with his great skill Steven Van Broeckhoven had Gaastra behind him and their name is well known within the windsurfing business for their high performance windsurf products. I’m sure all your windsurfing trigger fingers are itching and the urges to toss off winter coats are just getting stronger and thankfully the Oxbow Ride The Sky Event is one of first of the 2011 windsurfing season. The Oxbow Ride The Sky Event will have a focus on height rather than tricks or speed with a hope of breaking the world record for windsurfing jump height. Dozens of the world’s top windsurfers will be taken to the waves at Ho’okipa Beach Park in an effort to take the windsurfing industry to new heights. Starting April 1st windsurfers the likes of Kai Lenny, Alex Mussolini, and Thomas Traversa will be on call to take to the waves once the waters reach the best condtions for maximum height. Many people pay hundreds of dollars in hopes of getting an experienced wavesailor like Jem Hall to give them windsurfing instruction.  But thanks to the internet you can find many of Jem’s video’s online for free. Jem is a well versed windsurfer and has traveled the world holding clinics for novice and skilled windsurfers alike teaching them essential skills to add to their arsenal. Jem has also worked to produced two highly regarded instructional windsurfing DVD’s, Beginner To Winner and Winner to Wavesailor. Over the next few weeks Discover Windsurfing will be highlighting some of the world’s top windsurfers currently out on the waves today. First on our list is the young up and comer, Kai Lenny who is definitely a face to watch in the PWA Worldtour. Like many of the children of Hawaii, Kai began heading out onto the water at a very young age and took to the waves of Hawaii like a second home.  Kai has trained with such legends as Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama but has a ferocious technique that is all his own. Kai also represents Oxbow boards which is one of the biggest names within the windsurfing business and is a major supporter of the PWA World Tour. Kai is only starting his career and has already made a big name for himself so I can only imagine what this kid’s future has in store.
